Individual counselling offers ongoing meetings often on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The therapist and the client make this decision together. It is a discovery of self-awareness and understanding that may enhance your relationship with self and others. It is about discovering how to change and better respond to life situations. A one hour session between the counsellor and the client will explore the connection between the client's issues and how they would like to facilitate a positive change within their lives and find a way to move forward. Often couples will attend individually if they feel that personal issues are affecting their relationship and which to explore these further.
Common reasons for seeking help may include:
- Anxiety and depression
- Relationship or family issues
- Grief and loss
- Isolation
- Issues with friendships
- Stress
- Issues with sleeplessness, appetite
- Alcohol and drug issues
- Bullying and/or harassment
The session will explore:
- The cause of the issue
- Ownership of the issue and possible change
- Resources and other support services if you need them
